To see the actor who pioneered a role on Broadway is something I never expected to be able to do. So when I saw that Myles Frost was playing the main role in MJ at the London show, more than anything, this is what drew me to go and see it.
And, wow, was that a good decision! It was everything you would expect from a big show in London. I know it was probably not actually perfect but that sure is how it felt. Every aspect of the production was of the highest standard from the ensemble to the band to the technical.
But it was Myles Frost who stole the show. We knew he would be amazing but this was something beyond first class. It was private jet class! Not only did he pioneer this role, it was his broadway debut. Talk about making a first impression – he was brilliant. Frost grew up listening, singing and dancing to Michael Jackson music and this show was meant to be his.
Whilst the ensemble was incredible, I knew I was witnessing something special in Myles Frost and I found I couldn’t take my eyes off him as he made us feel we were watching the actual MJ. I had to savour every moment, every dance move, reaction, expression, the lot.
There was so much choreography and detail to learn; it must have been a mammoth undertaking. Or perhaps, as it seemed, it simply came naturally to him.
Whether you were a fan of Michael Jackson’s music or not, you should go to MJ. The story and the songs, the dancing and the atmosphere, they are all not to be missed. I can’t wait to experience it again in Sydney this week!
